About the Role

We are seeking a Parish Administrator & Bookkeeper to provide essential administrative and financial support to the Parish Priest and parish team. This is a varied role that combines office management, parish communications, event coordination, and bookkeeping responsibilities, ensuring the smooth running of parish life.

Key Responsibilities

Administration & Office Management

  • Act as the first point of contact for the parish office, greeting visitors and handling enquiries.
  • Prepare and distribute parish newsletters, mass sheets, and liturgy books.
  • Maintain parish databases, noticeboards, and website.
  • Manage diaries, correspondence, and meeting papers for Finance Committee and Parish Council.
  • Organise parish events and support liturgical activities.
  • Ensure compliance with GDPR and safeguarding requirements.

Bookkeeping & Financial Duties

  • Maintain parish accounts using the diocesan system (OPAS).
  • Complete monthly bank reconciliations and annual financial returns.
  • Manage planned giving and Gift Aid records.
  • Prepare financial reports for parish committees.
  • Process income, expenditure, and credit card transactions accurately.

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Highly organised, able to prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher).
  • Experienced in administration and bookkeeping (AAT qualification desirable).
  • A strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a small team.
  • Committed to confidentiality and sensitive handling of information.
  • Familiar with or willing to learn about the Catholic Church and its values.

Experience working in a faith-based or charitable setting is welcome but not essential.
