Retreat Leader Job Description

Do you have the skills to inspire young people and contribute to the overall mission of youth ministry at SPEC? Then you could be our next Retreat Leader.

What you’ll be doing

Situated in Pinner, Westminster Youth Ministry’s Retreat Centre, through the retreat experience, aims to create opportunities for young people to have a Spiritual and Personal Encounter with Christ (SPEC). The Retreat Leader is responsible for the delivery of day and residential retreat programmes for young people and contributing to the ongoing process of retreat development.

As Retreat Leader you will support the Programmes Senior Retreat Leader and Retreat Centre Manager in the development, and competent delivery of, an effective programme of Catholic retreats for school years 4 to 13. Through your work, you will be supporting the formation of our young people, and encouraging their active participation in their faith through parish involvement and other practical opportunities.

You will be a part of a vibrant Retreat team, responsible for leading the retreats, but also to promote, encourage and actively participate in the Catholic ethos of SPEC. You will assist the team by contributing to the marketing and promotion of retreats and the wider Westminster Youth Ministry through posting on SPEC social media, visiting schools within the diocese to raise awareness of SPEC, and working collaboratively with your youth ministry colleagues, clergy, and other diocesan departments.

This means there’s lots to get involved in – and to be excited about.

What we’re looking for

You’ll love working in a customer-facing role, using both your friendly and professional manner, and your comprehensive knowledge of the teachings of the Catholic Church to inspire the young people in their journey at SPEC retreats. It is paramount that the successful candidate has the ability to manage large retreats for varying age groups, whilst being able to relate to the children and young people attending – but also maintaining appropriate, professional boundaries with all who attend the retreats

Additionally, you will have excellent organisational skills, and an innate ability to think strategically whilst meet challenging targets and operational goals. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role for the Retreat team, as well as the wider Westminster Youth Ministry team, sustaining a diverse and demanding workload, whilst also managing relationships with a variety of stakeholders, all of which require you to communicate succinctly and with clarity.

The successful candidate for this role will need to be a practicing Catholic with a deep understanding of the Catholic faith and how the Catholic Church works, with the ideal candidate also having a professional qualification in a relevant subject area and possess relevant experience of working with young people. What we require above all else though, is that you respect the values we share to help others and support decent and dignified work for all without prejudice.

What we offer you

In return for your hard work and commitment to us, you will receive a competitive reward package which will include, but is not limited to:

  • Life Assurance
  • Access to Healthcare Cash Plan
  • Discounts scheme through Reward Gateway – shopping, restaurants, cinema tickets gift cards and much more
  • Specsavers Eye care Vouchers
  • Season Ticket Loan
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Access to low cost loans with Churches Mutual
  • Employee assistance programme– free, independent 24/7 help and advice for work-related issues as well as problems affecting home life

Additionally, it is possible for the successful candidate to take up residence at SPEC for a small monthly amount – inclusive of all utilities.
