The Parishes of Our Lady of the Rosary, Marylebone and St Joan of Arc, Highbury are seeking a reliable and practical Parish Hall & House Caretaker & Gardener to help maintain our parish buildings, gardens, and grounds.
This varied role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to two vibrant parish communities by ensuring our facilities remain clean, safe, welcoming, and well-presented for parishioners, visitors, residents, and community groups.
About the Role
As Caretaker & Gardener, you will be responsible for a range of cleaning, maintenance, and gardening duties across both parish sites, including:
Caretaking & Cleaning
- Maintaining parish halls, common areas, kitchens, bathrooms, stairwells, and other shared spaces.
- Ensuring facilities are clean, safe, and ready for use.
- Replenishing cleaning and hygiene supplies.
- Reporting maintenance issues, defects, damage, or health and safety concerns.
- Assisting with room layouts and furniture movement for parish events.
- Supporting monthly site health and safety inspections.
Gardening & Grounds Maintenance
- Caring for parish gardens and outdoor spaces.
- Pruning, watering, planting, weeding, and maintaining flower beds and landscaped areas.
- Collecting leaves, organising green waste, and maintaining tidy grounds.
- Helping select and maintain appropriate plants and garden features.
- Keeping pathways and outdoor areas free from hazards and unwanted growth.
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking someone who is not only competent in Caretaking and gardening but who also embodies our diocesan values of Competence, Reliability, Honesty, Perseverance, and Love. We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience in a similar caretaker, maintenance, cleaning, gardening, or facilities role.
- Is organised, dependable, and able to work independently.
- Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Can identify problems and take practical action to resolve them.
- Is flexible, adaptable, and willing to undertake health and safety training.
- Works well with volunteers, clergy, staff, and contractors.
- Respects and supports the mission and values of the Diocese of Westminster.
Experience within a faith-based, charitable, or non-profit organisation would be an advantage but is not essential.
Experience working in a faith-based or charitable setting is welcome but not essential.
