About the Role

St Anthony of Padua Parish in Edgware is seeking a highly organised and dedicated Parish Bookkeeper to support the effective and accurate financial administration of the parish. This is a vital role within our parish community, ensuring compliance with Diocesan financial procedures while providing reliable support to the Parish Priest, parish teams, and volunteers.

Working closely with parish staff, you will maintain accounting records, manage financial processes, and help ensure good stewardship of parish resources.

Key Responsibilities

Parish Finance & Accounting

  • Maintain accurate records of all parish income and expenditure using the OPAS accounting system.
  • Complete monthly bank reconciliations and ensure all accounts are up-to-date.
  • Record clergy credit card purchases and reconcile supporting paperwork.
  • Prepare quarterly financial reports for the Parish Finance Committee.
  • Work closely with the Parish Administrator to ensure parish financial records and accounts are kept up to date and accurate.
  • Create and manage designated donation funds for appeals or restricted purposes.
  • Submit the Annual Financial Return within Diocesan deadlines.
  • Liaise with suppliers regarding invoices, payments, and account queries.
  • Manage regular and recurring payments, ensuring timely processing.
  • Use the parish online banking system in accordance with diocesan procedures and financial controls.
  • Maintain organised and secure financial records, including invoices and correspondence.
  • Support the Parish Priest with parish counting procedures and financial controls.
  • Assist in preparing and monitoring the parish budget.

Planned Giving & Gift Aid

  • Maintain an accurate register of parishioners in Planned Giving.
  • Administer new registrations, amendments, and donor queries.
  • Oversee Gift Aid processes via OPAS and produce year-end declarations.
  • Record donations received via envelopes, bank transfers, cheques, online or contactless giving.
  • Oversee small GASDS claims.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Experience in a similar finance or bookkeeping role. (Essential)
  • Experience using financial accounting software. (Essential)
  • AAT qualification or equivalent. (Essential)
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook). (Essential)
  • Understanding of the social and moral teaching of the Catholic Church. (Essential)

Experience working in a faith-based or charitable setting is welcome but not essential.
