The Diocese of Westminster is seeking a friendly, organised, and professional Parish Administrator to support the day-to-day running of our vibrant parish in Hitchin. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys providing excellent administrative support while contributing to the life and mission of the Catholic Church.
As the first point of contact for parishioners, visitors, volunteers and clergy, you will play an important role in ensuring the parish office operates efficiently and warmly.
About the Role
Working closely with the Parish Priest, you will provide comprehensive administrative and office management support, helping to coordinate parish communications, maintain records, organise events, and support the smooth running of parish activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Acting as the first point of contact for the parish office.
- Preparing and producing weekly newsletters, notices, liturgy materials and parish communications.
- Maintaining parish databases, records and filing systems.
- Managing diaries, appointments and parish events.
- Coordinating room bookings and supporting the day-to-day running of parish facilities.
- Assisting with baptism, wedding and funeral administration, including maintaining registers and preparing documentation.
- Ordering supplies and liaising regarding building maintenance and repairs.
- Supporting parish volunteers and maintaining various parish rotas.
- Assisting with fundraising and community-based parish events.

Essential
- Previous experience in an administrative or secretarial role.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Good problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel and Publisher.
- A commitment to the mission and values of the Diocese of Westminster.
- The ability to work respectfully and sensitively with people from diverse backgrounds.
Desirable
- Experience working within a faith-based, charitable or non-profit organisation.
- An understanding of the Catholic Church and its structures.
- A desire to support the work and mission of the Catholic Church.
Experience working in a faith-based or charitable setting is welcome but not essential.
