670-205 PA to Auxiliary Bishop Job Description

Do you have the skills to provide day-to-day administrative and secretarial support to a senior member of clergy

What you’ll be doing

Working at Archbishop’s House, the PA to Auxiliary Bishop will be the first point of contact for the Bishop’s office, managing his day-to-day correspondence, telephone enquiries and coordinating specific aspects of his diary.

You will be responsible for processing all correspondence in line with diocesan protocol, booking travel and insurance as necessary, and liaising with both the other PAs and Cardinal’s Private Secretary as necessary. Additionally, you will need to type all meetings, agendas, minutes and associated correspondence, so will need to be comfortable with multiple computer programmes, as well as equipment such as Dictaphones.

Furthermore, you will have responsibilities surrounding the compiling and maintenance of a database of contacts and engagements on behalf of the Bishop, setting up weekend parish visitation meetings, and liaising with both external and internal groups to ensure quick setup and smooth-running of engagements.

This means there’s lots to get involved in – and to be excited about.

What we’re looking for

You will love working in an administrative/secretarial role, and will have experience of working with senior management in a large, complex organisation. It is essential that you have an understanding of the Catholic Church, its structure and organisation, along with a commitment to supporting the Bishop’s ministry in the Diocese, so that you can be a valuable to him and his work.

Additionally, you will have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, an innate ability to prioritise and to ensure the smooth-running of the busy, and often competing, diary of the Bishop. A keen attention to detail and skilled computer literacy will be integral to your support of the Bishop. Being experienced in shorthand would also be advantageous.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role for the Auxiliary Bishop’s office. Your friendly and professional manner, along with your calm and measured approach to your work, will make you an invaluable member of the team, serving as the first point of contact for both internal and external groups for the Bishop.

We welcome applications from those with a Catholic faith, those of other faiths, or none. What we require above all else is that you respect the values we share to help others and support decent and dignified work for all without prejudice.

What we offer you

In return for your hard work and commitment to us, you will receive a competitive reward package which will include, but is not limited to:

  • Life Assurance
  • Access to Healthcare Cash Plan
  • Discounts scheme through Edenred-shopping, restaurants, cinema tickets gift cards and much more
  • Season Ticket Loan
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Access to low cost loans with Churches Mutual
  • Employee assistance programme– free, independent 24/7 help and advice for work-related issues as well as problems affecting home life
