Help protect one of the most iconic places of worship in the country while ensuring it remains a place of peace, welcome, and safety for all who enter.

About the role
This is a pivotal leadership position at the heart of Westminster Cathedral’s operations. As Head of Security, you will be responsible for the safety of our people, buildings, and treasured artefacts. You will act as the Cathedral’s Chief Security Officer, advising senior management on all security matters — from day-to-day operations to national counter-terrorism developments — and ensuring that our security provision is both effective and welcoming.

What you will be doing

  • Taking the lead on all aspects of security for the Westminster Cathedral estate.
  • Managing security contractors and the Receptionist Supervisor.
  • Overseeing CCTV, access control, and intruder alarm systems.
  • Liaising closely with the police, local authorities, and external security agencies.
  • Planning and delivering security for major liturgical services, concerts, and other large events.
  • Developing and maintaining disaster recovery, crisis management, and business continuity plans.
  • Carrying out regular risk assessments and implementing effective control measures.
  • Ensuring all staff and volunteers are trained and confident in emergency procedures.

What we are looking for

  • Significant experience in security management for large, public-facing environments.
  • Strong knowledge of security systems, risk management, and public safety.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation, including health & safety and CCTV data protection requirements.
  • Proven ability to lead, inspire, and motivate teams.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • A calm and pragmatic approach under pressure.
  • Sensitivity to working within the ethos of a church environment.

What we offer you

In return for your hard work and commitment to us, you will receive a competitive reward package which will include, but is not limited to:

  • 23 days annual leave + bank holidays (pro rata for part time employees)
  • Vouchers for free eye tests and £50 towards the cost of glasses
  • Reward Gateway scheme offering discounts on a wide range of products and services
  • Pension scheme for eligible employees – 5% paid by the employer
  • Salary exchange (salary sacrifice) for pension
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption pay
  • Employee Assistance Programme
