Please note: During the 6-month probationary period, the post holder will be expected to be on-site in Victoria, SW1P.
After successful completion of the probation there is a little flexibility of hybrid working, limited to one day a week, remote working.
The Diocese of Westminster is seeking to appoint a Deputy Data Protection Officer to help ensure that the Diocese continues to meet its obligations under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and other applicable legislation.
Reporting to the Diocesan Data Protection Officer, the post-holder will play a key role in developing and maintaining our privacy governance framework and ensuring a high standard of data protection compliance across our parishes, agencies, and central services.
This is a unique opportunity to join a supportive and mission-driven team in a values-led organisation. The successful candidate will bring expertise in UK data privacy compliance, excellent communication and organisational skills, and a collaborative, proactive approach.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the development and implementation of the Diocese’s privacy governance framework
- Advising internal stakeholders on data protection matters, including DPIAs and privacy compliance in daily operations
- Delivering in-person and online training to staff and volunteers across the Diocese
- Reviewing data processing and sharing arrangements with third parties
- Supporting responses to data subject rights requests, breaches, complaints, and related matters
- Coordinating data audits and maintaining statutory records
The successful candidate will:
- Have relevant experience in a data protection or compliance role
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal and organisational skills
- Be able to manage multiple priorities and work independently when required
- Show sensitivity, integrity, and commitment to the values and mission of the Diocese
- Hold (or be willing to obtain) a recognised data protection certification (e.g. CIPP, CIPT, CIPM, ISEB)
Experience in a faith-based, non-profit, or charitable organisation is desirable but not essential.
