Caritas Hope, Caritas Westminster is seeking an experienced and compassionate Signs of Hope Manager to lead and develop our specialist counselling service for d/Deaf people and their families. This unique opportunity combines therapeutic practice, service leadership, partnership working, and project development within a highly respected social action organisation.

Signs of Hope provides faith-literate counselling and psychotherapy in British Sign Language, Spoken English, and other communication methods, supporting individuals who may face barriers to accessing appropriate mental health services.

This role offers the chance to shape a pioneering service that supports wellbeing, promotes inclusion, and strengthens access to specialist counselling within the Deaf community.

Signs of Hope also hosts a think tank of Deaf practitioners developing a Deaf-Centred model of therapy.

About the Role

As Signs of Hope Manager, you will lead the day-to-day delivery and development of the service while also providing therapeutic support directly to clients.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering counselling or psychotherapy sessions to d/Deaf clients and their relatives.
  • Managing referrals, waiting lists and client allocation.
  • Recruiting, supporting and overseeing sessional counsellors.
  • Monitoring service performance and impact through data collection and reporting.
  • Leading and coordinating the Deaf-Centred Therapy Think Tank.
  • Promoting the service and raising awareness through Deaf media and community engagement.
  • Ensuring all work is delivered in line with professional ethical standards and confidentiality requirements.

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking someone who is not only competent in counselling but who also embodies our diocesan values of Competence, Reliability, Honesty, Perseverance, and Love.

Essential Requirements

  • A recognised qualification in counselling or psychotherapy.
  • Fluent communication skills in British Sign Language (BSL).
  • Experience providing counselling within the Deaf community.
  • Experience working with abuse, trauma, and violence against women.
  • Understanding of faith, belief, and their impact on wellbeing.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritise and deliver results.
  • Experience managing complex caseloads and professional relationships.
  • Good budget management and reporting skills.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience working with Deafblind people.
  • Knowledge of Deafblind Manual Alphabet and Hands-On Signing.
  • Experience of research or project evaluation.
  • Experience of delivering training in BSL.
  • Experience of people management.
  • Experience using Salesforce or similar client management systems.

Experience working in a faith-based or charitable setting is welcome but not essential.
