About the Role
We are seeking a reliable and proactive Parish Caretaker to support the smooth day-to-day running of our parish hall and surrounding facilities. This is a hands-on, varied role where you will play a key part in ensuring the premises are safe, clean, welcoming, and well-maintained for all users.
Working closely with the Hall Manager and Parish team, you will take responsibility for caretaking, cleaning, security, and event support across the site.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Upkeep
- Ensure the hall, car park, and outdoor spaces are clean, tidy, and free from hazards
- Carry out routine inspections of building systems (heating, lighting, alarms, etc.)
- Undertake minor repairs and report any maintenance issues
- Manage stock of cleaning supplies and consumables
- Support contractors on-site when required
Events & Lettings
- Open and close the premises for bookings and events
- Set up rooms, furniture, and equipment as required
- Clean all areas thoroughly following events, including kitchens and toilets
Security
- Lock and secure the building, gates, and all rooms
- Respond to alarm activations and emergencies when needed
- Act as a key contact for out-of-hours issues
Grounds Maintenance
- Carry out basic gardening duties such as mowing, weeding, and planting (seasonal)

About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Hard-working, dependable, and self-motivated
- Practical, with good DIY and maintenance skills
- Willing to work evenings and weekends
- Able to work independently and use initiative
- Supportive of the Christian ethos and values of the parish
Previous experience in a similar role is desirable but not essential.
Experience working in a faith-based or charitable setting is welcome but not essential.
