Job Description – Parish Bookkeeper

 

The Diocese of Westminster is looking for a skilled and dedicated Parish Bookkeeper to support the Borehamwood Parishes by ensuring the smooth financial operation of parish life. Working closely with the Parish Priest, you will play a vital role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the parish’s mission through your attention to detail and commitment to integrity.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all parish bookkeeping using the Diocese’s accounting system (OPAS)
  • Complete monthly bank reconciliations and annual financial returns
  • Record all income and expenditure, including parishioner donations and contactless payments
  • Administer the Gift Aid system and maintain Planned Giving records
  • Prepare financial reports and support parish finance meetings
  • Supervise volunteers where appropriate and contribute to maintaining a welcoming parish environment

 

What We’re Looking For:

  • AAT qualification or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a similar finance or bookkeeping role
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel)
  • Ability to work methodically, independently, and with confidentiality
  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of the social and moral teachings of the Catholic Church
