About the Role
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Westminster seeks a compassionate, confident, and professionally qualified Health & Wellbeing Coordinator to act as an advocate and advisor for the welfare of sick and retired priests. This appointment holds no responsibility for direct care delivery; instead, it calls for expert oversight of care and support packages ensuring dignity, wellbeing, and appropriate pastoral assistance, in line with Catholic values and safeguarding practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as an advocate for priests, representing their welfare needs and interests in all matters relating to care and support.
- Conduct holistic care needs assessments and critically review care and support packages, ensuring that provision is appropriate and responsive to the needs of each individual.
- Identify what good care looks like and assess standards consistently, making recommendations to improve quality when needed.
- Liaise confidently with diocesan committees, external agencies, health and social care professionals, care providers, and healthcare insurers to ensure the optimal package of support is in place.
- Support the navigation of complex health and social care systems, acting as a confident point of contact for multi-disciplinary teams.
- Provide pastoral guidance and practical assistance for priests, coordinating with relevant stakeholders for comprehensive wellbeing support.
- Manage financial administration related to care costs and maintain strict compliance with safeguarding, GDPR, and diocesan policies.
- Champion the values of competence, reliability, honesty, perseverance, and love in every aspect of the role, supporting the ethos of the Diocese.
Person Specification
- Currently registered nurse (adult/general or psychiatric/mental health), or recently retired and still on the register as retired (or equivalent recognised qualification).
- Extensive understanding of what constitutes good care, with demonstrable experience evaluating or advising on care/support packages within care home, community, or hospital settings.
- Comfortable communicating and negotiating with multiple agencies, care professionals, and insurance providers in complex and sensitive situations.
- Strong pastoral, counselling, or welfare support experience, with the ability to advocate confidently on behalf of vulnerable individuals.
- Practising Catholic with a deep understanding of Catholic values and priestly vocation (essential).
- Excellent organisational, communication, and active listening skills.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly.
- Experience within faith-based or charitable organisations desirable but not essential.
